UPDATE: Four University of Alabama players arrested

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WRCB) -- University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban is known for teaching his players about "the process" it takes to win a championship. Four Alabama football players will now face the "legal process" after being arrested on Monday.

According to the NBC affiliate in Birmingham, police arrested the four student-athletes Monday night on felony charges connected to two robbery incidents earlier that day.

The players are accused of beating a fellow student unconscious and stealing his money to buy snacks in a vending machine.

The University of Alabama confirms that Tyler Hayes was arrested for two counts of second-degree robbery. Dennis Pettway was arrested for two counts of second-degree robbery. Eddie Williams faces?two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of fraudulent use of a credit card charges. Brent Calloway was arrested for one count of fraudulent use of a debit card.

The NBC affiliate's website, www.alabamas13.com, cities depositions as showing that Pettway, Hayes and Williams allegedly attacked a student around 12:30 a.m. Monday, punching him in the head and face while kicking him in the rib and back area until he was unconscious. A backpack containing an Apple Macbook Pro was allegedly taken during the incident.

Around 1:33 a.m., the deposition continues, Williams allegedly assaulted another student until he was unconscious, taking his wallet containing money, a UA Action Card and debit/credit cards. Hayes and Pettway allegedly waited in a vehicle with full knowledge of Williams' intent to commit the crime.

Then, around 4:22 a.m., the deposition shows Williams and Calloway are accused of using the second victim's UA Action Card/Debit Card to obtain snacks from a vending machine.

All four football players have since bonded out of the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

Williams was also arrested Sunday on an unrelated gun charge.

"This is a very serious matter and we are very disappointed in the actions that have resulted in the charges against these student-athletes," UA Athletic Director Mal Moore said in a statement.

"In this type of situation, the Athletics Department works in conjunction with the University. We will have more to say at the appropriate time."

"The young men charged are indefinitely suspended as we continue to gather information and talk to the appropriate people," Coach Nick Saban said in a statement.

"The University and football program have strict guidelines regarding issues of this magnitude. This behavior is unacceptable for any student-athlete at the University of Alabama and not representative of our football program."
